CONTENTS• ケンタッキーの春 ケンタッキーの春は4つの季節の中で一番過ごしやすいと言われています。 観光でケンタッキーを訪れるなら4月もしくは5月をおすすめします。 平均気温は15度~25度で、アウトドアに適した季節でもあります。 また、有名なイベント、ケンタッキーダービー(世界中のお金持ちが自家用ジェットを飛ばしてこのダービーを観戦しにやって来ます)がこの季節に開催されます。 ただ、日本では経験しないような凄まじい竜巻が多く発生する時期であり、自然の脅威を感じるでしょう。 春の服装 多くのアメリカ人はあまり服装にこだわりがありません。 とはいっても、アメリカでも都会に住んでいればお洒落な人は沢山見かけますが、田舎に行けば行くほどお洒落とはかけ離れていきます。 春だからといって春らしい恰好をするのではなく暑くなったら半そでを着て寒くなればジャケットを羽織るだけです。 ケンタッキーの夏 夏の平均気温は30度くらいです。 たとえ曇りであってもケンタッキーの夏は紫外線が強く外出時は紫外線対策を忘れないようにしましょう。 また、湿度が高く実際の気温より暑く感じることがあるかもしれません。 雷雨が多く発生するのもこの時期です。 夏の服装 日本では紫外線対策につばが大きい帽子やアームandネックカバー、日傘を使いますが、アメリカではこれらのアイテムを使っている人はいません。 一般的にアメリカでは色白より小麦色肌の方が魅力的に見えるという文化があります。 また、冬の時期が長い地域の人は特に夏の間に思いっきり日光を浴びておくという習慣があるので肌を隠すことはありません。 Tシャツやタンクトップ、下はホットパンツやジーンズにサンダルが一般的な夏の服装です。 年齢があがるにつれてそこまで肌の露出はなくなりますが、あまり年齢相応のファッションという概念がアメリカにはありません。 年齢、季節問わず自分が着たいものを着るのがアメリカ人です。 ちなみにアメリカ人は帽子は被りませんが、目の色素が薄く紫外線をより強く感じてしまうので、どんなときもサングラスをかけます。 ケンタッキーの秋 春と同様、秋も観光するにはおすすめの季節です。 9月下旬頃からだんだんと涼しくなり20度を下回る日も多くなってきます。 11月初旬頃までは快適な日々も多く、日中は外で遊んでも気持ちよく感じることでしょう。 秋の服装 少し気温が下がってきてもまだまだ半そでの人をよく見かけます。 アメリカ人は日本人より体温が高いと言われているので、日本人が肌寒く感じるくらいが彼らにとっては丁度いい気温なのかもしれません。 ケンタッキーの冬 11月中旬くらいになってくると、とうとう冬がやってきたなと肌で感じるようになります。 12月~2月頃までは本格的な冬の寒さで氷点下2度~3度まで下がることも珍しくありません。 雪も降り、平均6センチ~7センチ積もることもあります。 この時期は車のスリップ事故を多く見かけるようになります。 冬の服装 さすがのアメリカ人でもこの時期になるとダウンジャケット、ニット帽、手袋、ブーツを履いて寒さをしのぎます。 路面凍結するのでブーツは底が平らなもので滑り止めがついているうえに、防水加工がされたものがいいでしょう。 ケンタッキーの気候や服装に関するまとめ ケンタッキーは一年を通して四季を感じることができる州です。 年中温暖な地域もいいですが、日本のような四季を感じたければ、ケンタッキーも移住先の候補に入れてみてもいいかもしれません。

1746年に設立された、アメリカで4番目に古い大学で、アイビー・リーグの1校、多くのノーベル賞受賞者を輩出しています。 緑豊かなキャンパスが魅力的で、ゴシック調やコロニアル調の学舎や学生寮がたち並び、レガッタ競技ができる程の大きな湖や広大な草原もあり、多くの野鳥や動物まで共存。 音楽や美術等の分野の教育にも力を入れています。 周辺は、学術機関や研究機関が多く立ち並ぶ国内でも有数の学術都市となっています。

 

 脂肪酸の分解
脂肪酸を合成する経路があるなら、その逆に脂肪酸を分解する経路も存在する。脂肪酸の分解をβ酸化と呼び、このβ酸化によってアセチルCoA、NADH、FADH2を生み出すことができる。

 

β酸化に関与している酵素はミトコンドリアのマトリックスに存在する。そのため、細胞質の脂肪酸はミトコンドリアに移行する必要がある。脂肪酸をミトコンドリア内に移行させるにはカルニチンが必要であり、カルニチンと脂肪酸が結合することでミトコンドリア内膜を通過することができる。

 

 

 

アシルCoAは一回のβ酸化によってアセチルCoA一分子を遊離する。アセチルCoAは炭素数2の分子であるため、一回のβ酸化によって炭素数が2少ないアシルCoAとなる。

 

なお、β位の炭素を酸化するからβ酸化と言われる。

 

 

 

一回のβ酸化で炭素数2の分だけ減るため炭素数が偶数の脂肪酸の場合、「脂肪酸の炭素数 ÷ 2」の数だけのアセチルCoAが生み出される。この時、β酸化が行われる回数は、「脂肪酸の炭素数 ÷ 2 - 1」であるため、NADH、FADH2は、「脂肪酸の炭素数 ;÷ 2 - 1」の数が生み出される。

 

例えば、ステアリン酸 (C18)がβ酸化される時、炭素数が18なのでアセチルCoaは9個作られる。また、この時のβ酸化のサイクル数は8回のため、NADH、FADH2は8個作られる。

 

なお、天然に存在する脂肪酸のほとんどは炭素数偶数であるが、奇数個の脂肪酸も存在する。奇数個の脂肪酸をβ酸化する場合、最後にプロピオニルCoAを生成する。

 

なお、脂肪酸は「飽和・不飽和」や「炭素数偶数・奇数」に関わらずβ酸化を受ける。

 

 ケトン体
ケトン体は糖尿病や飢餓時など糖利用に何らかの障害があるときに、肝臓において生じる。糖尿病患者では血中の糖を取り込めなくなっており、糖を利用することが出来ない。また、飢餓時では糖が不足しているため、糖からエネルギーを作ることができなくなっている。

 

なぜ、糖利用に障害があるときにケトン体の合成が亢進されるかであるが、これは脳の糖利用と関係している。脳の主なエネルギーは糖である。しかし、糖が利用できない場合は他の方法を考えないといけない。この他の方法にケトン体があり、ケトン体は糖の代わりとなる脳の唯一の代替エネルギーである。

 

実際には、ケトン体はアセチルCoAに変換されてエネルギーとして働く。

 

糖利用に障害が起こると、β酸化の亢進が起こる。β酸化が亢進されると、結果として多量のアセチルCoAが生じる。
たとえ肝臓ではアセチルCoAが過剰の状態であっても、糖利用に障害が起きているため他の臓器ではアセチルCoAが不足している。そのため、肝臓の多量のアセチルCoAを他の臓器に届ける必要がある。

 

しかし、アセチルCoAの形では血中へは移行せず、他の臓器に届けることが出来ない。そのため、アセチルCoAをケトン体に変換するのである。ケトン体は水溶性であり、この形をとることで全身を巡ることができる。なお、肝臓以外の組織であれば、ケトン体をアセチルCoAに変換して利用することができる。

 

 

 

ケトン体にはアセト酢酸・β-ヒドロキシ酪酸・アセトンがあり、これら三つを総称してケトン体と呼ぶ。アセト酢酸、β-ヒドロキシ酪酸は血中へ移行し、他の臓器でエネルギーとして利用できる。それに対し、アセトンは揮発性がとても高いため主に呼気中に行く。ケトン体が過剰の人において呼気が甘い香りになることがあるが、これはアセトンの臭いのためである。

 

ケトン体はエネルギーとして利用することができ有用であるが、血中に過剰に存在するとケトアシドーシスを引き起こす。

 

アセト酢、β-ヒドロキシ酪とあるように、血中へ移行するこれら二つのケトン体は酸性である。酸性であるため、過剰に存在すると体内のpHは酸性に傾いてしまう。これがアシドーシスであり、アシドーシスによって脱水・中枢障害・昏睡などが引き起こされる。
